Installing A Garden Office _ Part 5

See the full series of posts, to find out how we got here.

When will the digging stop?

I continue to dig, its like the great escape, there is always more to dig. However I don't have a cool name for my hole, nor do I have anyone else to help.

I'm very close to the end now, so I thought I would crunch some numbers to stop me having to do more digging.

I reckon its about 30 wheelbarrows of soil for every 4m^2 of soil about 7.5cms down.

So the 4m x 3m hole I need, equates to this.

3.5 layers at the back third = 105 barrows
3 layers at the middle third = 90 barrows
2 layers at the front third = 60 barrows.
Plus 2 barrow for each block pier hole (foundation). there are 9 of them

Total = 264 wheel barrow full of soil.

Soil is heavy, so I am guessing about 45+ kilos a barrow full (based on comparing it with 4 concrete blocks in the same thing)

264 barrows * 45kg = 11880 kg or 26k pounds.

That is the weight of 2 Male Adult African Bush elephants!

No wonder my back hurts!

Anyway, here is my hole:
A large 3m x 4m hole
I will explain about the blocks in a future post.

Whats next?

Time to do some research!
