Installing A Garden Office _ Part 7

See the full series of posts, to find out how we got here.

Building the floor

Now I have the base dug out, and the block pillars sighted (note they are not secured yet), its time to build the base frame.
This frame will also be the floor of the office!

I have decided on a 3m wide building that is 3.6m deep.
These dimensions have been dictated by the trees surrounding the space, and also the standard lengths of materials. e.g. working to standard lengths means you don't have to cut as much, or get a lot of wastage.

Most timber comes in multiples of 1.2m (1220mm), so 1.2, 2.4, 3.6, 4.8.
This is true for sheet materials too they are often 1.2m (1220mm) x2.4m (2440mm).

So 3.6m depth fits the standard lengths of timber.
The 3m width is because I want as wide as I can for the room (I don't want it to feel small inside). The trees stop it being any wider, but the next timber size down is 2.4m which just makes the room feel too small.

So the base will be made of 47x125mm treated C24 timber (see previous post for more info).
It will be in 2 pieces (possibly 3), a 1.2mx3m front part, and a 2.4x3m rear section.
It will have joices at 400mm centers.
The joices will be installed using Joice hangers, and nailed into place using Sheradised Square Twist Nails.
The basic frame will be nailed together with 100mm Round Galvanised Nails.

Between the Joices will be Celotex General Application Board GA4100 insulation of 100mm depth.

Then all the joices will be covered in Aluminium Foil Tape. This is to stop water from passing through the floor. It also stops a lot of heat loss, by reflecting it back into the room.

Costing

All of this totals around £700 for the floor, and about £100 for the foundations.
If you are interested in the specifics I purchased, then contact me, and I can share my spreadsheet of costs.

Whats next?

I have purchased all the bits, and have the theory, now I need to put it all together. Wish me luck!
