First Day At New Job Fail

My latest job is fully remote. That means no access to an office in person.
Therefore in order to start working at a new position, some basic things are needed:

  • PC
  • Multiple monitors
  • Headset
  • Webcam
  • Notebook & Stationary
  • Chair
  • Desk
  • Software Logins
  • Software licenses

Day 1 - No Hardware, no software logins. Nothing - Ooops!

Manager is 5 hours different timezone. What can I do?

So how would you handle this?

Well for me, I found out some of the tools that were in use that I had not used before, and was able to do some training on these tools.

For me it was Jira, Confluence, BitBucket & LiteDb

I used YouTube to and the products' own documentation documentation.

Also once I got access to the internal Office365 system, I was also able to read and watch some recent internal marketing videos which gave context of the work that will be done.

I also found there youtube and other social channels and caught up on any public marketing!

Basically what I am saying is, I made myself useful, and got to know the company through whatever means possible.

Everything worked out quickly enough, but don't be afraid to get stuck in on your first day even if you don't have the things you need. Show you worth and professionalism by being pro-active!
