Installing A Garden Office _ Part 4

See the full series of posts, to find out how we got here.

"The roots have to go!"

My ethos with this build has always been to nestle it among the trees and therefore to ensure they stay healthy too.

It is intended to be nestled between 2 trees, a May tree (Red Hawthorn) and what we affectionately call a "weed tree". It grows no matter what you do to it. I have yet to identify it, but it grows fast.

Because I don't have an affinity do it, I won't be sorry if it dies off. The only loss will be some privacy on the rear boundary.

Sometimes you set out with good intentions but common sense gets in the way. I hope the tree survives as I cut a root that is 6inches in diameter and a lot of its ancillary roots.

Large Tree Root

I hope there are more roots in the other direction but I don't know.

But Why?

It's for a good reason though: I need to maintain a good airflow under the building to prevent water penetration and moisture build up.

This means the building will sit better between the trees due to the reduced height and survive due to the extra moistness of being amongst them.

For those people who hate me for making this decision, please know that my garden has many trees and flowers and bushes and several wild flower patches in it that I maintain. After all the tree has not come out, and I hope it will survive the loss of this limb.
